Winter Wonderland Returns for Another Year

Summary
The City of Nanaimo Parks, Recreation and Environment department is pleased to bring back the popular Winter Wonderland skating event running from December 26 to 30.
Frank Crane Arena in Beban Park will be transformed into a Quebec Winter Carnival theme featuring a 40 foot castle, twinkle lights, seasonal music and a chair ice carving. Activities over the five days include $1 skating sessions with some free sponsored sessions included, free helmet and skate rentals throughout, a Kinsmen Pancake Breakfast on December 29 and daily Pepsi prize raffles.
Sponsors for Winter Wonderland include: PEPSICO, Tim Hortons, Aggressive Timber, Brand Xpress, CIMCO, Caledonia Fire Protection, Heatherbrae Builders, Herold Engineering, Miranda Construction, Nanaimo Sheet Metal, Roto-Rooter, Ryan Vending, Shaw Electrical Services, PlanetClean, Prism Engineering, Windley Construction, Nanaimo Daily News, Island Radio (The Wolf 106.9 FM and the Wave 102.3 FM).

Key Points
- Winter Wonderland Quebec Winter Carnival, will run from December 26 to 30 at Frank Crane Arena in Beban Park and includes $1 Skating sessions (along with some sponsored free sessions from Tim Hortons, Miranda Construction, Herold Engineering and Heatherbrae) including free skate and helmet rentals.
- This yearly event happens thanks to partnerships between the City of Nanaimo and various local businesses and is a way to say "thank you" to the community and give everyone, regardless of age, skating ability or economic circumstances, an opportunity to try skating.
- Daily prizes can be won courtesy of Pepsi and include Mt. Washington lift passes and other Pepsi memorabilia. The grand prize is tickets to the Vancouver Canucks vs. LA Kings game on April 4.
- New this year is a Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Kinsmen on Tuesday, December 29 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. This is a 'by donation' event with all proceeds going to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
