Holiday fun with the City of Nanaimo
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed December 8, 2016 9:00 AM
Summary
This holiday season, Nanaimo Parks and Recreation has families covered with a variety of fun activities.
Beban Pool is continuing on with their Family Pool Parties each Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Admission is only $3 per person and includes games, large inflatables, water running on mats, prizes and much more! If you want to try and dunk Santa in the pool, come to Nanaimo Aquatic Centre on December 18 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
The Arenas have added extra skating sessions, including two "Skates with Santa" on December 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in Frank Crane Arena and December 22 from 6:15 to 7:45 pm in Nanaimo Ice Centre. In addition, the holidays would not be the same without the annual Winter Wonderland from December 26-30 in Frank Crane Arena. This year's fantasy theme will see the arena transformed into a variation of "Whoville". This is a chance for the community and businesses to come together to offer residents the chance to skate at the various session for only $1 (some are free).
The biggest and best family new year's eve party is happening again this year! Finale's theme this year is "Under the Big Top at the Carnival" where participants can go to acrobat school. In addition, there will be live entertainment, swimming, skating, face painting, crafts and much more! For the younger ones, there will be an early countdown at 8 pm. If you can stay up later, there will be a second countdown at 10 pm as the evening is wrapping up.
While the kids are on Winter Break, Beban Park will be offering Frosty Frolic camps from December 27 through December 30 and January 2 to 6. If you enjoy skating and hockey, new this year is our Holiday RecSkate Camp and our Holiday RecHockey Camp from January 2 to 6.
Visit the City website for more information on upcoming events and public schedules. Registration for holiday camps is available online or by calling 250-756-5200.
Link to Strategic Plan: The holiday family fun events support an Active Lifestyle and the Recreation, Culture, Sports and Tourism priority.
