Work begins on Linley Valley West Access Project
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed March 7, 2017 11:00 AM
Summary
Works to improve access to Linley Valley West neighbourhood are getting underway. Tree clearing activities are scheduled for March so that they are being completed before the start of bird nesting season, and in advance of upcoming construction.
The intersection and connector road was the preferred option from public feedback in late 2015. In June 2016 Council directed staff to design and budget for a phased multi-lane roundabout at the intersection along with new street lighting, crosswalks, bicycle lanes and landscaping.
The estimated construction duration will be 8 months, starting with tree clearing in March and the remainder of construction between April and the end of 2017. Intersection work will be completed in the summer months due to school traffic, and will require reduced speed limits, detours and other traffic controls in place to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Motorists will start to notice traffic changes along the corridor in coming weeks with the tree removals, and late April as construction gets underway. More information will be made public as it becomes available.
Link to Strategic Plan: This project supports the Transportation and Mobility priority of the Strategic Plan.
Key Points
- Motorists should be aware of traffic changes and obey traffic control personnel.
- Tree clearing is scheduled to be completed before March 15.
Quotes
"This intersection upgrade will provide a new access to Linley Valley West and improve overall transportation along the corridor for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians."
Quick Facts
- The new intersection will be constructed as a single lane roundabout, with space to expand to mutli-lane arrangement if future traffic volume requires.
