Property Taxes - Avoid the lineups
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 5, 2017 11:00 AM
Summary
Avoid the lineups in the Service and Resource Centre this year by claiming your grant online at www.nanaimo.ca/goto/hog and paying your property tax bill through your online banking account.
When adding the City of Nanaimo as a bill payee for the first time, search by 'Nanaimo' and use your folio number, found on the front of your tax notice, as your account number. You can also make payment through telephone banking and at most financial institutions. Please note that the banks will not accept Home Owner Grants.
Dropping off your cheque after business hours? Use the drop box located at the front entrance at 411 Dunsmuir Street. Cheques post dated to July 4, 2017 are accepted.
The City's property tax notices were sent out in late May, with a due date of July 4, 2017. Taxes must be paid and the Home Owner Grant claimed if you are eligible, by the due date.
Link to Strategic Plan: Offering online options to Nanaimo taxpayers is contributing to one of the five Council Priorities from the City’s 2016-2019 Strategic Plan Update under "Governance Renewal".
Key Points
- Even with additional staffing, the City will still experience significant lineups at the Service and Resource Centre during tax time (May 23-July4, 2017).
- To avoid having to wait please consider electronic options for payments and for claiming the Home Owner Grant.
- A drop box is available at 411 Dunsmuir Street and the City will accept post dated cheques (dated up until July 4, 2017).
- The Home Owner Grant can be claimed online at www.nanaimo.ca/goto/hog
Quotes
"Avoid waiting in line. There are many electronic options available to pay your taxes and claim the Home Owner Grant, or you can use our drop box and even pay with a post dated cheque. "
