Parking options for Canada Day 150 celebrations
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 20, 2017 11:00 AM
Summary
To help ease traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety during this year's special Canada Day festivities, parking in Maffeo Sutton Park will be available to people with disabilities and mobility limitations on a first come first, served basis.
On Canada Day there are plenty of free, City of Nanaimo, parking facilities available within walking distance of Maffeo Sutton Park. These include: the Bastion Street parkade; Harbour Front parkade; Port of Nanaimo Centre (Vancouver Island Conference Centre) parkade; and the Wallace Street and Wentworth Street parking lot. Parking at City of Nanaimo on-street meters will also be free on July 1st, for up to two hours per metered parking space.
The Regional District of Nanaimo is providing a number of free public shuttles from select locations to Maffeo Sutton Park on July 1. Shuttles will run througout the day with the last shuttles scheduled to depart the park starting at 11:25pm. Please see the attached schedule PDF to plan your route accordingly. We anticipate that this will be a popular alternative to driving to the event.
For more information on free downtown parking options for Canada Day, see the map attached to the online version of this news release.
*Please note News Release has been updated June 28 to include details about complimentary shuttle service routes/times on July 1.
