Feedback process continues in Public Engagement Pilot Program
Additional sessions planned for August, online survey open
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed August 2, 2017 9:00 AM
Summary
The City of Nanaimo is offering additional opportunities for residents to provide their thoughts on what aspects they would like to see tested in a new one-year public engagement pilot program. Three feedback sessions will be held on:
- August 16 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Oliver Woods Community Centre,
- August 17 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Harewood Activity Centre, and
- August 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Lions Pavilion located in Maffeo Sutton Park.
Ideas and suggestions received during these meetings will be compiled with input collected during the two sessions held on July 17 and 18 along with results from an online survey open until 12:00 p.m., August 31, 2017. A committee will then review the feedback and propose recommendations on what the program should look like.
Link to Strategic Plan: Taking responsibility to be an excellent municipal government through open discussion and effective community engagement.
Key Points
- Residents of Nanaimo who are interested in helping shape the pilot project are encouraged to attend one the three events.
- Can't attend? An online survey is available until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017. See the online version of this news release for the link.
Quotes
"So far, we have received some very thoughtful ideas and suggestions from residents on how they would like to see a program like this role out. We're looking forward to further conversations later this month."
Quick Facts
- In the fall of 2016, Nanaimo City Council passed a motion to establish informal, open topic, community engagement and public conversation pilot sessions to be held quarterly over one year. Following the completion of the pilot, a review will be conducted to evaluate the success, participation and accomplishments of the program.
