City set to host free event aimed at reusing items
Trunk Sale coming to Nanaimo in September
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed August 9, 2017 3:24 PM
Summary
The City of Nanaimo will be hosting what it hopes will become an annual reuse event on Saturday, September 9th.
The Nanaimo Recycles Trunk Sale entails vendors selling their unwanted items from the trunk of their car to bargain hunters. The free reuse event aims to give unwanted household items a longer lease on life and to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
This event is new to the City's calendar and complements the annual reuse rendezvous event which happens each spring.
Link to Strategic Plan: Taking responsibility to become an excellent municipal government.
Key Points
- The event will take place on Saturday 9th September between 9am and noon in the parking lot of Nanaimo Curling Club at 106 Wall Street.
- The event is free for everyone, sellers and browsers.
- Along side the trunk sale visitors can also: Tour our brand new garbage truck, learn all about the new automated garbage collection system, enter our “Name the Garbage Truck” contest to win some awesome prizes and play our “What Goes Where” sorting game.
- Local radio station 102.3 The Wave will be broadcasting live from the event!
Quotes
"We hope that this event will prove to be popular, there is a strong tradition of garage saleing in Nanaimo and hopefully the community will embrace this event. We want this event to be free and fun for all. Bring the whole family, grab a bargain and take a tour of our brand new garbage trucks!"
