Public Works Association of BC Honours Charlotte Davis

Recognized for the inaugural Women's Ambassador in Public Works

Charlotte Davis, Manager of Sanitation, Recycling and Public Works Administration for the City of Nanaimo received the 2017 Women’s Ambassador Award by the Public Works Association of BC (PWABC) at their annual conference.

Each year, PWABC recognizes individuals who have demonstrated their passion, skills, experience and dedication to the public works industry. As recipient of the Women’s Public Works Ambassador Award, Charlotte demonstrates excellence that sets a benchmark for Public Works professionals to strive for and a role model who encourages other women to regard Public Works as a profession of choice.

Tracy Samra, City of Nanaimo Chief Administrative Officer congratulated Charlotte, stating "Throughout her tenure, Charlotte has demonstrated a strong commitment and passion to her work, and is a high performing employee. I am proud of her accomplishment and leadership to her team, Public works and the City of Nanaimo."

John Elliot, Senior Manager of Public Works noted “Charlotte is an incredibly positive influence within the organization and in the community. Charlotte demonstrates great leadership in public works for solid waste collection through public education, the implementation of new and creative ways to handle solid waste and in her approach with the community by bringing the importance of public works services to the forefront of Nanaimo.”

Charlotte’s accolade was presented at the Awards Banquet held at the 85th Annual Technical Conference in Penticton, BC in front of her peers from more than 60 municipalities and First Nation communities from across the province.

Greg Wightman, Vice-President of the PWABC Board of Directors added “The Board of Directors and the members of the PWABC congratulate Charlotte for continuing to raise the bar for professionalism within public works and for serving as a role model for women in our industry. Exceptional leaders like Charlotte, raise awareness of the important role of public works in maintaining the safety of our communities and raising the quality of life of all residents.”

"I feel very honoured to receive this award and would like to thank PWABC and the City of Nanaimo for this recognition," said Charlotte. "The Public Works field holds many great career opportunities for women and through this award I hope to be able to encourage more women to step into this rewarding area. I really love working at Public Works at the City of Nanaimo, every day I am given the opportunity to work hard, with great people in an area that I feel passionately about."

PWABC is a non-profit society affiliated with the Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) and the American Public Works Association (APWA). The associations aim to serve its members by providing opportunities for mutual support, education and professional development. It does this through training, mentoring/networking, and industry events.
