Sort Toss Roll - Here Come the Carts

Cart delivery commences today for homes in Central Nanaimo

New recycling, organics and waste carts are rolling out to homes in Central Nanaimo starting today. This is the first step in switching over to the new automated collection program.

Charlotte Davis, Manager of Sanitation, Recycling and Public Works Administration with the City of Nanaimo, says that the City selected the carts that tested the best ergonomically. "I'm excited for residents to receive their new carts and experience the benefits of the Sort Toss Roll program, including the ability to add yard waste to the new organics cart, and neat, clean and easy to roll receptacles."

Three wheeled carts will be delivered to each home over the next three weeks, and will be accompanied by an information packet explaining the Sort Toss Roll program. From how to place your carts on collection day, to what goes in the carts, the packet is designed to be a complete and comprehensive guide to the change in curbside collection.

"I hope that residents will recycle more now that they have an easy to use receptacle for their recycling," says Charlotte. "It's much better than the yellow bag. You just sort your materials, toss them into the correct cart and roll it to the curb!"

Some homes may not receive all three carts on the same day. However, each home will receive their full set of carts at least five days prior to their first automated collection, which is indicated on your new waste collection schedule with a triangle symbol.
