Tis the season for holiday fun with the City of Nanaimo Parks and Recreation
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed December 18, 2017 10:30 AM
Nanaimo Parks and Recreation has families covered with a variety of fun activities this holiday season.
The arenas will be busy with three "Skates with Santa" on December 20 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in Frank Crane Arena, December 21 from 6:15 to 7:45 pm in Nanaimo Ice Centre and a special Free session thanks to Coast Capital Savings on December 22 from 3:45 to 5:15 pm in Nanaimo Ice Centre. In addition, the holidays would not be the same without the annual Winter Wonderland from December 26-30 in Frank Crane Arena. This year, the arena will be transformed into a Fantasy theme. This is a chance for the community and businesses to come together and offer residents the chance to skate at various sessions for only $1 or even free. A complete schedule is available on the City website.
Over in the pools, take aim to try and dunk Santa at Nanaimo Aquatic Centre on December 23 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and enjoy a free swim thanks to Coast Capital Savings at Beban Pool on December 29 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. While the kids are on Winter Break, Beban Park will be offering a variety of day camps from December 27 through December 29 and January 2 to 5. Please check page 30 of the Fall and Winter Activity Guide for more information.
The biggest and best family New Year's Eve party is happening again this year! Finale's theme this year is "Space Jam". There will be live entertainment, swimming, skating, face painting, crafts and much more! For the younger ones, there will be an early countdown at 8:00 pm. A second countdown will be held for those who can stay up a bit later at 10:00 pm as the evening is wrapping up.
“Nanaimo Parks and Recreation is proud to offer many family-friendly and affordable activities for the community,” says Gary Paterson, Recreation Coordinator, “Take a moment with us to enjoy an active lifestyle this holiday season.”
Visit the City website at www.nanaimo.ca for more information on upcoming events and public schedules. Registration for holiday camps is available online or by calling 250-756-5200.
