2018 Culture & Heritage Award Recipients Announced

City to recognize the best in arts and culture on Thursday, April 5

Summary

Each year, the City of Nanaimo recognizes individuals and groups that make Nanaimo a more culturally vibrant city. Council has approved the following recipients for the 2018 Culture & Heritage Awards:

EXCELLENCE IN CULTURE - Mr. Rick Scott HONOUR IN CULTURE - Mr. William Good LIFETIME CULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT (for posthumous recipients) - Ms. Audrey Alexandra Brown HONOUR IN HERITAGE - Ms. Jan Peterson

Recognition of these recipients will take place at a special awards ceremony to be held at the Port Theatre on Thursday, April 5, 2018. Tickets are free but must be reserved through the Port Theatre Box Office at www.porttheatre.com or 250-754-8550. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • The Excellence in Culture Award honours organizations and individuals that have achieved regional and/or national recognition in the field of arts and culture (visual, performing or literary arts).
  • The Honour in Culture Award honours groups, corporations or individuals that are known for their dedication and support of the development of the cultural fabric of Nanaimo.
  • The Lifetime Cultural Achievement Award is awarded to posthumous recipients. This award was established to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the culture of our community over their lifetime.
  • The Honour in Heritage Award is presented to individuals, groups and corporations who demonstrate outstanding support, advocacy, promotion or interpretation of Nanaimo's heritage and history. This is a new award category for 2018.
