Temporary Public Art installs to begin this weekend in City parks

Artist will begin install of new artwork at Maffeo Sutton Park

Over the weekend, the first of the new Temporary Public Art installations will begin. Quebec land artist Marc Walter will be on site beginning Sunday, April 1 at Maffeo Sutton Park as he constructs "The Jester" from local recycled branches. Marc will weave and knot the branches to create a 5 metre tall sculpture with a flame like headdress.

""The Jester" is the first of eleven new pieces of temporary art to be installed in 2018," said, Culture & Heritage Coordinator, Chris Barfoot, "All of the remaining new artworks are scheduled to be installed in May 2018 during Public Art Week."

Since 2010, the City of Nanaimo has been involved in a dynamic and evolving temporary public art program that enhances and animates our City’s parks. Each year, outdoor artwork is installed on a temporary basis for the enjoyment of residents and visitors. City parks and spaces essentially become outdoor art galleries and showcase artworks for a limited period of time.
