An Exciting Announcement Will Have You Zipping Through Maffeo Sutton Park
Wildplay Element Parks awarded contract to operate Maffeo Sutton Park zipline

JOINT NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 7, 2018 11:00 AM
The City of Nanaimo is pleased to announce that an agreement with Wildplay Element Parks to operate the Maffeo Sutton Park Zipline is signed and ready to action. Work will start immediately in the park to get the zipline equipped and running as soon as possible. The plan is to operate during peak park season, June to September, and to work with special event organizers throughout the rest of the year.
"Parks and Recreation is excited to be working with Wildplay, they have a great reputation for providing safe and adventurous experiences," said Richard Harding, Director of Parks & Recreation, "Their values such as Nurture the Clan, Taste the Dirt and Share the Fruit, are fresh, creative and a good fit with Parks and Recreation. Residents and visitors will surely enjoy a thrill seeking activity in the already popular downtown park."
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to open a zipline in the premier park in Nanaimo, the birthplace of our company,” says Tom Benson, CEO at WildPlay, “We can’t wait to extend our operations to this exciting second location in Nanaimo where we have a unique opportunity to work with downtown events while creating jobs in the city.”
Wildplay Element Parks will continue to operate in their current location at 35 Nanaimo River Road and the Maffeo Sutton Park Zipline will provide them with an additional location in Nanaimo. If the first year of operations go well in Maffeo Sutton Park, there are options to expand, such as twinning the lines and adding other features. As soon as the zipline is in operation, the community will be notified. Be sure to follow the City of Nanaimo and Wildplay on Facebook and Instagram for more information.
