City Seeking Poetry Submissions for a Poetry Anthology by Nanaimo's Youth

Beyond this City's Streets: A Poetry Anthology from Nanaimo's Youth

The City of Nanaimo’s Inaugural Youth Poet Laureate, Kailey DeFehr, invites local poets between the ages of 15-26 to submit their original work for the chance to co-star in the city’s first ever video poetry anthology.

Limited copies of the final collection will also be available in print from the Vancouver Island Regional Library’s Harbourfront branch, where selected poets will be asked to present their work on camera at the anthology’s launch on Saturday, January 19, 2019. To qualify for selection, poems must help us answer this question: what does it mean to be a youth in Nanaimo to you? Show us how you connect to this city we share and call home.

"This is such an exciting opportunity to hear from young people about how they're experiencing life and connecting with our city," said Kailey DeFehr, Youth Poet Laureate. "I hope this project raises a positive outlook on Nanaimo but also opens up a conversation about what areas may need improvement for our youth".

The deadline for poetry submissions is Wednesday, December 12, 2018. Full submission guidelines are available on the City's website (www.nanaimo.ca/culture-environment/poetry), attached to this news release, or by contacting us directly.
