Strong winds in Nanaimo cause dangerous conditions

Road and park closures in effect until further notice

Summary

A powerful windstorm has created a number of emergency situations in Nanaimo including downed trees and power lines. City facilities including Oliver Woods Community Centre, Beban Park Social Centre, Bowen Park complex and Nanaimo Ice Centre are closed due to power outages. All City parks and trails are closed until further notice. A number of roads are closed due to downed trees and power lines.

Residents should avoid travelling and stay indoors and only call 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.
