Wear red & white to celebrate Canada Day at Maffeo Sutton Park
Nanaimo Canada Day celebrations
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 12, 2019 8:00 AM
Canada Day festivities will be held in Maffeo Sutton Park from 11:00 am until 3:30 pm on Monday, July 1. Wear your red and white colours and celebrate our nation's 152nd birthday!
On the main stage, enjoy the Celebration of Flags and performances by Aunti Bobbi, Wunderbread, Twin Kennedy and La Familia. The cultural community stage will feature a wide range of entertainment including the Snuneymuxw Dance Group, Bolly X Fitness, Vibe Dance Studio, Chinese Dancers and many more! Throughout the day, you will find roving entertainers, complimentary bouncy castles, interactive community booths, face painting, henna, cake donated by Columbia Bakery and the Harbour Zipline across Swy-A-Lana Lagoon. In addition, members of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue will be offering vessel tours on the crab dock/fishing pier and there will be a free water fill station hosted by Coastal Water Store, so please bring your reusable water bottles to stay hydrated.
"We have another year of great family-oriented fun planned for Canada Day," says Ashley Rowe, Recreation Coordinator, "Meet the Fairytale Island princesses, enjoy a variety of food vendors and take advantage of all of the many free activities and entertainment our community has to offer."
Priority parking will be given to persons with disabilities in Maffeo Sutton Park. All other parking is available off-site and located at various parkades and lots downtown. Free parking is available in the following parkades: Bastion Street, Harbour Front, Port of Nanaimo Centre, and Wallace/Wentworth parking lot. On-street city meters are also free of charge for a two hour limit. As it will be a busy day, we encourage people to use transit or walk, bike or carpool to the event.
To find a schedule of events and entertainment, please look for the poster under the Parks & Recreation Event listing at www.nanaimo.ca.
