Planning underway for East Wellington Park

Public is invited to review draft plan at upcoming open house

Summary

A planning process for East Wellington Park is currently underway. Initial public consultation and research has taken place and the City is excited to share the draft park plan at an upcoming open house. The open house is being held at the Cavallotti Lodge (2060 East Wellington Rd) on Saturday, January 18 from 10:00 am - 2:30 pm and a walk through the park with City staff taking place afterward.

The park plan was reviewed by Council at the Committee of the Whole meeting on October 29, 2019. Some of the activities outlined in the plan include environmental conservation, agriculture production, supporting astronomy activities and dog walking.

  • East Wellington Park is located at 2191 East Wellington Road. It was acquired by the City of Nanaimo in 2014. This site is 12.7 hectares, is zoned PRC-1 and lies within the Agricultural Land Reserve. An application to the Agricultural Land Commission is required for park uses.
