New solid waste collection schedules in effect this week
Residents asked to carefully review collection schedules
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed January 14, 2021 1:00 PM
Summary
New solid waste curbside collection routes are being added in 2021, and existing routes are being modified, to increase efficiency and limit collection delays. Transitions to new routes are taking place over a period of two weeks, including weekends between January 16 and 30, 2021. Residents are asked to check their curbside collection schedule carefully for the month of January, as some collection days may not follow a regular pattern. This ensures a smooth transition without loss of service. Carts should be placed out at the curb by 8:00 a.m. on the scheduled collection day.
Residents should have received a hard copy of the schedule in the mail in December. Residents who wish to receive a simplified version of the schedule are asked to email SortTossRoll@Nanaimo.ca or call 250-758-5222. To view an online version of the curbside collection schedule, visit www.nanaimo.ca/goto/GarbageCalendars or download the Nanaimo Recycles app for free from the App Store or Google Play.
Link to Strategic Plan: The new collection schedule supports the City's ongoing commitment to sustainability; through recycling more at the curb we take more responsibility for the protection of our environment.
Key Points
- Residents will experience the same level of service: weekly collection of organics and alternating biweekly collection of recycling and solid waste.
- Residents are asked to pay special attention to the month of January. Routes are transitioning in mid-January and collections may not follow a regular pattern. Some collections in this two-week timeframe may take place on the weekend.
- Transitioning to a new route system will increase efficiency and sustainable service delivery, and reduce operational delays.
