Pre-construction work begins for Bowen Park Trailway & Utility Upgrade Project

Intermittent trail closures will be in effect for the rest of January

Summary

In preparation for summer construction, environmental work will be completed in Bowen Park throughout the remainder of January.

The Bowen Park Trailway & Utility Upgrade is scheduled for construction between May to October 2021. This includes widening an existing multi-use path, adding trail lighting, and upgrading a large sanitary trunk sewer along the south slope of the park.

The trailway is being upgraded to current active transportation standards and the capacity of the sewer utility will be increased to meet future growth in the City. A section of the trail requires slope stabilization measures which will also be completed.

The pre-construction work will include nesting surveys, root investigation to protect mature trees, as well as hazard tree and other removals required. Undertaking the work at this time of year mitigates the impact to wildlife and is the first step in preparing for the summer project.

The existing trailway along the south area of the park will be closed January 20-21 and January 27-29.

Link to Strategic Plan: Proactively planning for growth and improving active transportation infrastructure support a healthy environment and livable city.
