City seeking members for Art in Public Spaces Working Group
Group will offer strategic, technical expertise & champion role of art & design

Summary
The City of Nanaimo is seeking applications for membership on its Art in Public Spaces Working Group. The newly formed working group will consist of five individuals who will be appointed by City Council to serve as knowledgeable volunteers for a two-year term, helping to advance the City’s public art program. Applicants will be considered for their demonstrated knowledge and experience in the expanded field of public art and creative place-making.
The purpose of the Art in Public Spaces Working Group is:
- to collaborate to advance priorities articulated in City plans and policies, including the Community Plan for Public Art (2010), and A Cultural Plan for a Creative Nanaimo 2014-2020 (2014) and subsequent updates to these plans by providing input grounded in best practice, on future policy development;
- to provide both strategic and technical advice and act as a resource;
- to champion the role of artists and creative practitioners as professionals and promote processes and policies that support the livelihood and well-being of the creative economy;
- to promote awareness and understanding of the public value of art in the City and its potential roles in the public realm; and
- to contribute community-based knowledge related to equity, diversity and accessibility priorities.
To be eligible, applicants must reside or work in Nanaimo or within the Regional District of Nanaimo and have demonstrated experience in the expanded field of art practice. Applications are sought from visual artists, arts administrators, educators, curators and art historians, architects, design professionals, landscape architects and Indigenous knowledge keepers.
