CleanBC New Construction Rebates Program

Rebates offered for construction of new, high-performance electric homes

Summary

For builders within the City of Nanaimo, the CleanBC Better Homes New Construction Program is providing rebates of up to $15,000 for the construction of new, high-performace electric homes. The program is open to builders constructing new Part 9 single-family detached homes, laneway homes, duplexes, triplexes or townhomes. Builders can receive rebates for constructing homes with electric heat pumps or for building to upper step levels in the BC Energy Step Code, using electric space and water heating equipment. Additional add-ons are available for those who work with an energy advisor and for homes with no fossil fuel usage at all.

All building permits issued on or after April 1, 2020 are eligible. For projects that are currently following municipal Energy Step Code requirements under the City of Nanaimo “Building Bylaw 2016 No. 7224”, rebates can be applied to your projects. To apply for City of Nanaimo top-up rebates or other energy efficiency grants, visit the Betterhomes BC website www.betterhomesbc.ca/rebates/cleanbc-new-construction.

Anyone interested in connecting with a BC Hydro representative, can attend an ‘Ask an expert’ breakfast series on April 20, 2021 beginning at 7:30am. For details and to register, please contact the Canadian Homebuilders Association (Vancouver Island) chbavi.com.
