City of Nanaimo Honours Memory of former Kamloops Residential School Children

[Updated Monday, May 31, 2021]

In recognition of the lives of 215 children who lost their lives at the former residential school in Kamloops, I have asked that City of Nanaimo facilities lower flags to half-staff. We stand united in grief with our Indigenous friends and neighbours all across the country to honour the lives of those children, their families, survivors and all children who never made it home from this dark chapter of our history.

The Canadian and City of Nanaimo flags, on City properties, throughout the community, including the gateways, will be lowered to half-mast and will remain down for the week.
