Morning fire at Departure Bay Activity Centre

Summary

A fire at the Departure Bay Activity Centre was reported to 911 at approximately 5:30 this morning. Fire crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames but managed to get the fire out. There were no injuries to the public or to firefighters.

The fire is now under investigation, and the building will be assessed to determine the extent of the damage. Participants who attend recreation programs there or use the facility will be contacted and updated on this incident. Where possible, recreation programs will be accommodated elsewhere.

In the meantime, the building will be secured with no access permitted.
