City kicks off spring with Family Fishing Day & return of Concerts in the Park

A season of family-friendly entertainment to enjoy in 2022

Summary

If an afternoon of fishing with the family appeals to you, or if you are simply a music aficionado, the City of Nanaimo invites you to Family Fishing Day at Colliery Dam Park on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the kick-off performance of our Concerts in the Park series will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Bring the whole family for a fun day of learning to fish. Walk, bike or roll to this beautiful and historic South Nanaimo Park, located at 5th Street and Wakesiah Avenue, accessible by transit routes 6 and 40. Family activities begin at 10am, experience a trout release at 11:30 a.m., followed by entertainment by Nanaimo's own Fiddelium and Folk Band ensemble. Bring a chair or blanket and get set up on the lawn for the show. All equipment and permit to fish included in day's activities. Parent participation required. Family Fishing Day is made possible in partnership with BC Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, Fishing for Fun and other local community groups.

This spring and summer, take in a full and exciting Concerts in the Park series. The full line-up includes:

  • May 7 - Fiddelium & Folk Band (Fiddle/Folk) in Colliery Dam Park
  • June 1 - Bandiera Parker (Brazilian/Bossa Nova) in Harewood Park
  • June 14 - Ken & Greg (Blue Grass) in Diver Lake Park
  • July 5 - Waterstone Trio (Blues/Country/Pop) in Pipers Lagoon Park
  • July 6 - Sol Azul (Soft Latin) at Departure Bay Kin Hut
  • July 13 - An Evening of Soul, Blues, Pop with singers Buwa, Ty Koch & Joshua Holoway (Mixed genre) in McGregor Park
  • July 20 - Les Amies Musicales with VIS Musicians Emily Nagelbach, Guyonne Le Louarn, Alexandra Lee and Mezzo Soprano, Erin Lawson (Classical) in McGregor Park
  • August 3 - Cathedral Grove Trio with VIS Musicians Lani Krantz, Paolo Bortolussi and Minjee Yoon (Classical) in McGregor Park
  • August 17 - Summer Vibes Quartet with VIS Musicians Nicole Arendt, Jonathan Bernard, Chris Helman and Michael Vaughan (World/Jazz/Classical) in McGregor Park
  • August 23 - Shika (Traditional Japanese/South Asian/Western Folk/Indie) in Neck Point Park
