Nanaimo Council approves a new Community Watershed Restoration Grant
Grant program set to launch this fall
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed June 27, 2022 3:00 PM
Summary
At their June 20, 2022 meeting, Council endorsed the Community Watershed Restoration Grant Guidelines and Criteria, effectively supporting a new grant program for environmental restoration within the City of Nanaimo.
Up to $20,000 in grant funding will be available annually to community organizations, environmental non-profits and individual residents that aim to carry out watershed restoration projects focusing on urban stream and riparian restoration enhancement, natural environment protection, and/or climate change adaptation solutions. Individual applications of up to $20,000 in funding will be accepted; however, funding of less than $20,000 may also be split between more than one successful applicant. Funding may be used to provide financial support for restoration planning and design studies, material purchase, invasive plants disposal, equipment rental and labour.
The City will begin accepting grant applications in early fall with applications due in mid-October. For more information on the Community Watershed Restoration Grant and other available City of Nanaimo grants, visit the grants section of the City's website at www.nanaimo.ca/your-government/grants.
