Nanaimo Votes: Information sessions planned for potential candidates

Summary
On Saturday, October 15, 2022, voters in the City of Nanaimo will elect a new Council consisting of one Mayor and eight Councillors. Two candidate information sessions will be held on Tuesday, August 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m.
The purpose of the sessions is to provide potential candidates with information regarding the role and expectations of Mayor and Council for the City of Nanaimo, including how to become a candidate, what's involved in becoming an elected official and other matters of interest to anyone seeking to be elected to Council.
Sessions will be held online via Zoom and a phone in option will be available for anyone with limited access to the internet. Those interested in becoming candidates must register to attend one of the sessions by emailing elections@nanaimo.ca or calling 250-755-4405.

- To become a candidate you must be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day, October 15, 2022; a Canadian Citizen; resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and, not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law.
