The community is invited to participate in monthly Art Agora activities

Summary

Art Agora was conceived and created by media artist and designer Tanuja Mishra during the pandemic, to bring together residents of Nanaimo through shared online creativity. Through a series of monthly activations, residents are invited to participate in a variety of creative projects.

Last month, the program launched with the activity Nan-IMO. Residents, including the Mayor, submitted hand written notes about what living in Nanaimo meant to them. A panel of jurors, including Poet Laureate Kamal Parmar, selected winners. All the entries can be viewed on the website www.artagora.ca.

This month's activity is Culi-near-y-Delights, asking residents what they would make if they were cooking for a stranger, a neighbour or a favourite person, and to share that dish through photos and handwritten recipes. Winners will be selected on creativity, personal relevance and depth of reflection.

Art Agora's monthly, self-guided activities are offered until the end of August. A list of the themes and activities can be found on the website.

Link to Strategic Plan: Everyone in Nanaimo should have access to supportive recreation, culture, and wellness services and the opportunity to engage in meaningful experiences that foster individual leisure and community wellbeing.

Key Points

  • Media artist and designer Tanuja Mishra created Art Agora after she identified a lack of digital spaces where people could come together and connect with one another as fellow citizens and residents during the pandemic.
  • This month's activity is Culi-near-y-Delights. Submit your final dish and handwritten recipe of a dish you would cook for a stranger, by April 21, for a chance to win a prize.

Quotes

"I enjoyed participating in the Nan-IMO activity and encourage you to take advantage of these unique offerings. It's wonderful to see programs and offerings evolving to meet the community's changing needs and support physical, mental and emotional wellness."
