Nanaimo’s CAO Jake Rudolph announces retirement

After nearly five years of serving as the City of Nanaimo’s Chief Administrative Officer, Jake Rudolph has announced his pending retirement.

With a professional career spanning more than 40 years, including over 30 years in management positions across Canada, Mr. Rudolph has served as Nanaimo’s CAO since July 2018. Prior to coming to Nanaimo, he served as the CAO for the City of Pitt Meadows for almost 13 years.

Mr. Rudolph has held a number of senior positions with the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators during his tenure with the City, including previously serving as the President and Past-President.

“Since Mr. Rudolph was hired as the City's CAO in 2018, he has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment in working with Council and staff in establishing good governance, strategic direction and prioritizing our economic, cultural and environmental objectives,” said Mayor Krog, “Mr. Rudolph has more than earned his retirement and I will be forever grateful to him, as should all the citizens of Nanaimo, for his courage in taking on the role of CAO given the significant challenges at the time he was hired. Under his leadership, the City has seen some very positive change and we have been extremely fortunate to have him serve our City over the past five years.”

Mr. Rudolph will remain as CAO until mid-July 2023. In the meantime, Council will discuss options for filling the vacancy created by Mr. Rudolph’s retirement.

"It has been a privilege to serve in the role as CAO for the City of Nanaimo," said Mr. Rudolph, "I would like to thank the many people who have supported me in this role, including staff for the great work they do and Council for the leadership they have provided. We are a great organization in a remarkable City and it has been a privilege to be CAO."
