New mountain bike skills park opens in Harewood Centennial Park

Just in time for the start of summer holidays, those wishing enter the sport of mountain biking will have a new place to test their skills. City of Nanaimo Parks crews recently completed a project at Harewood Centennial Park with the construction of a new mountain bike skills park, which opens Friday, June 30.

The construction of the bike skills park was a partnership with the Steve Smith Foundation whose expertise was used in the design and construction of the project.

The park is designated as a "Green Level" or entry level bike park for riders. The aim is to help young and new riders gain the skills in a controlled environment and build to exploring the Nanaimo areas vast network of mountain bike trails.

The skills park adds to an already feature-rich park, further solidifying Harewood Centennial as a destination park.
