Up to $5,000 in funding available per project
NEWS RELEASE - Distributed October 3, 2023 3:41 PM
Summary
The City of Nanaimo is offering a new grant to support small-scale creative environmental projects. Beginning Oct. 3, 2023, applications will be accepted for the Community Environmental Sustainability Project Grant.
A total of $20,000 in funding is available annually starting in 2023. Up to $5,000 in project funding will be available per application. Eligible community organizations, including environmental non-profits, local stewardship groups, school groups, religious organizations and participants in the Acting for Climate Together program, are encouraged to apply. Funding will be used to support projects that improve the environmental health of natural systems, enhance residents' connections to nature, provide educational values, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and/or prepare the community for climate change impacts. The grant will support a wide variety of environmental sustainability projects not eligible for funding under the Community Watershed grant launched last year.
More details regarding the Community Environmental Sustainability Project Grant are provided in the Grant Guidelines and Criteria and application forms available on the City of Nanaimo’s website at www.nanaimo.ca/your- government/grants/. The deadline for submitting applications is 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.
Link to Strategic Plan: The Community Environmental Sustainability Project Grant applications will be evaluated based on how they support the Green Goals of City Plan - Nanaimo ReImagined. Establishing a Community Environmental Sustainability Project Grant Program is included as an immediate program item within the City of Nanaimo's Integrated Action Plan.
