Luminous Paths: Nanaimo’s 150 & Beyond

The City of Nanaimo invites all to experience Luminous Paths, a celebration of light, art, and community

Summary

The City of Nanaimo invites all to join us on January 22, 2025 from 5-9 p.m. at Maffeo Sutton Park for the opening of Luminous Paths: Nanaimo’s 150 & Beyond. This free, month-long winter art festival is a celebration of light, art, land and community. Temporary light-based art installations will illuminate and transform the park’s public space into something new; an interactive experience that ignites imagination, inspiring hope and excitement for the future of our community.

January 22 was the date of the first City Council meeting 150 years ago for the newly incorporated City of Nanaimo. To mark that significant date, the Luminous Paths opening event will feature food trucks, children’s crafts, interactive community booths, live music, dance and light performances. Illuminated art installations will be on display in identified public spaces, encouraging visitors to explore the park and community spaces. Artists featured will include bailey macabre, David Martinello, Jenny Smith, Mauro Dalla Costa and Monkey C Interactive.

The art installations will remain on display in Maffeo Sutton Park until the closing event on February 17th (Family Day) from 4–8 p.m. at Maffeo Sutton Park.
