Description

Bowen Park is located in the heart of the city, with most of the 36 hectare park remaining undeveloped. A series of interpretive trails meander along the Millstone River. A leisurely stroll leads to a scenic waterfall and fish ladder. Visit the duck pond and an amazing rhododendron grove with over 350 different species.

Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool (summer), sports fields, curling club, outdoor lacrosse box, disc golf (discs can be borrowed at registration counter), tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball courts, two playgrounds, lawn bowling green and an outdoor amphitheatre available for weddings and other private events. There are also two covered picnic shelters.

Bowen Park was donated to the City of Nanaimo in 1918 by the Western Fuel Company of San Francisco with a condition for park purpose only. Official land title registration took place in 1931.

The Bowen Administration Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
