Procurement Services
The Purchasing and Stores Department provide support services for all city departments and serves as a liaison between the vendor community and the city. We provide professional expertise in procurement, contracts and supply chain management and ensure fair and transparent procurement processes are followed.
Purchasing assists in sourcing supplies, equipment and services to provide city departments with the best overall value and is authorized to issue contracts. The competitive bid process is managed following municipal guidelines, policies, legislated trade agreements and provincial laws.
The City of Nanaimo posts the majority of competitive goods and services opportunities over $75,000 and construction projects over $200,000 on both BC Bid and the City's bids&tenders website.
Procurement Policies and Trade Agreements
In accordance with city policies and trade agreements, the Purchasing Department is responsible for the fair, open and transparent procurement of goods, services and construction, and maintaining a competitive bidding process under municipal and provincial laws. Purchases are made from local, provincial, national, and international sources of supply, depending upon the nature and type of purchase.
