Water Fill Stations

The City of Nanaimo Water Fill Stations are provided as a favourable community service to aid neighbouring residents and businesses that are deficient with potable water. 

They are not considered an essential service and are available to provide support relief, at cost, of supplying treated potable water.

Locations

The City has two water filling stations located at:

  • Labieux Road, Nanaimo
  • Chartwell Road at MacMillan Road, Cedar

Instructions on how to use the water filling stations are shown on the water filling station reference guide and in the Frequently Asked Questions (see links below).

Note: All of the dispensing ports are fitted with a A200 (stainless) 2 inch male grooved camlock hose connection. Please ensure that you have the correctly sized female camlock coupler (with arms) to connect your hose to the dispensing port. 

The City of Nanaimo is not responsible for the quality of water once it leaves the water filling station.

When using either Labieux Road or Chartwell Road water filling stations users are requested that they do not leave their truck or vehicle engine idling when filling up or waiting in line as local noise by-laws are in effect. Noise complaints will be investigated and reported to local by-law officials.  Failure to comply to the noise by-laws may result in time restraints being but on individual or businesses FOB card(s).

Water Filling Station Application and FOB Card Payment

Apply to get a water FOB card

A FOB card is required to access the Water Filling Stations and anyone can apply to get a card.

Please email Public.WorksInfo@nanaimo.ca with your application request. It is IMPORTANT that the email subject line contains Water Filling Station Card Request.  Within your email provide the following information for your account setup:

  • Business Name (if applicable),
  • Contact Name,
  • Address,
  • Telephone,
  • Email.

Typically a new application will be processed by the City within 3 to 5 business days after receipt of an emailed request.  The account setup will be completed and an e-mail will be sent to the applicant with information on their account and when the card(s) are ready to be purchased and picked up at the front counter of the Service and Resource Centre at 411 Dunsmuir Street.  Payment for the application fees and FOB card(s) are non-refundable and due at the time of pick up.

The administration fees are charged as per Waterworks Bylaw #7004. Application form processing and one FOB card $50. Additional or replacement (for lost) FOB Cards $20 each, you must already have a Simcom Water Management System account.

2024 charges for water hauled are $18.79 per 1,000 imperial gallons for both commercial and residential users. The new charges came into effect on January 1, 2024.

Terms of Water Filling Station

  1.  The applicant hereby understands and agrees to be fully responsible for the safe and proper transport of water for domestic purposes.
  2. The applicant further hereby agrees to release, indemnify and keep indemnified the City, and its employees and officers from any and all claims, costs, damages, losses, actions, causes of action, suits, demands, fees, fines, expenses or losses whatsoever, including economic loss, arising from or in any way connected with the supply or sale of water by the applicant.
  3. The applicant further hereby agrees to abide by Water Use Restrictions and other Water Notices as enacted by the City.
  4. The applicant is responsible for any damages to the City of Nanaimo equipment/property (including roads).
  5. The City reserves the right to discontinue water supply at any time without notice.
  6. The water consumption rate shall be charged as per the City of Nanaimo Bylaw #7004.16.
  7. The applicant shall notify the City (Public.WorksInfo@nanaimo.ca) immediately of lost or stolen card(s). Replacement FOB cards are available at the City of Nanaimo, Public Works Office counter (see Bylaw #7004.16 for fees). Unused card balance can be refunded or credited to a new card.

Loading your FOB card(s)

The FOB card(s) are tied to an accounting system and the cards can only be credited or topped up via the online web site.

To access your FOB card(s) account(s) please go to the following website (a Firefox web browser is required).

Enter the user name and password supplied to you by the City to review your account and load or top up your FOB card. Your existing account balance is also available on the web site.
