CITY PLAN: NANAIMO REIMAGINED
City Plan - Nanaimo ReImagined is the City’s strategic planning document, that provides direction for the coming 25 years on land use, Truth and Reconciliation, climate adaptation, health and wellness, diversity, accessibility and inclusion, economic prosperity, sustainable living, and more. Because cities work best when interdependent systems are considered together, City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined unifies traditionally separate strategic documents to serve as Nanaimo’s: Official Community Plan (OCP); Parks, Recreation, Culture, & Wellness Plan; Active Mobility Plan; Transportation Plan; Climate Action & Resiliency Plan; Accessibility & Inclusion Plan.
City Plan - Nanaimo ReImagined is our guide for how we will get to our future Nanaimo – a city that has the benefits we enjoy today combined with new opportunities. Currently the second largest city on Vancouver Island, Nanaimo is growing and changing. More people are choosing Nanaimo to raise families, work, retire, and enjoy our city’s natural and cultural amenities. How the City addresses growth, while meeting its economic, social, cultural, and environmental objectives is the purpose of City Plan - Nanaimo ReImagined.
Official Community Plans (OCP) are governed by the Local Government Act (LGA) and to become an Official Community Plan, City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined was adopted by Council on July 4, 2022 as City Plan Bylaw 2022, No. 6600. To learn more about the process leading up to the adoption of City Plan – Nanaimo ReImagined visit the ReImagined Nanaimo Project Page.
City Plan: Nanaimo ReImagined implementation is supported by two key documents: The Integrated Action Plan and the Monitoring Strategy. The Integrated Action Plan communications the full breath of actions the City may consider undertaking to implement City Plan policies over the ongoing, immediate and long-term. The Monitoring Strategy identifies key targets and indicators to monitor the success of City Plan implementation. To learn more, visit the Integrated Action Plan and The Monitoring Strategy project pages.
