Nanaimo Recycles Trunk Sales
They’re back - stop in at Country Club Centre from 9 am to 2 pm on Saturday, June 22 and VIU's Parking Lot L August 24 for the 2024 Trunk Sales!
The sales are for vendors to sell their unwanted items from the trunk of their car to bargain hunters. These free reuse events aim to give unwanted household items a longer lease on life and to reduce the amount of waste sent to the landfill.
Trunk sales promote reuse and recycling of unwanted “garage sale” type items. No retail-type booths or sale of new items will be permitted. The only new items permitted for sale are items made from recycled materials.
This year we will be holding TWO Trunk Sale Events. The first event will be on June 22, 2024 at the Country Club Centre from 9:00am - 2:00pm. The second event will be held on August 24, 2024 at the Vancouver Island University in Lot L from 9:00am - 2:00pm.
It is free entry for sellers by advance registration. 150 vendor spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Sellers can reserve a space by sending an email to public.worksinfo@nanaimo.ca with the subject line: 2024 Trunk Sale Registration. Deadline for applications is 3:00pm the Friday before the sale (June 21 and August 23).
Buyers be sure to bring your reusable bags!
Reuse Rendezvous
July 20 - 21, 2024
Looking to declutter your home, garage or workplace? Give old household items a new life with the City of Nanaimo's annual city-wide swap meet!
Reuse Rendezvous is a community event to celebrate the Zero Waste principles of reuse and redistribution! You know the old saying - One person's trash is another person's treasure. As a redistributor or a bargain lover, your participation in Reuse Rendezvous helps keep usable goods out of the landfill and reduces the need for production of brand new goods.
Redistributors – Find a match for your unwanted-but-usable household goods.
- Mark the item with a “FREE” tag.
- By Saturday morning, set your items at your curb - Please do not block sidewalks or bike paths.
- Watch out for the weather! Summer sun is likely, but keep an eye out on your items so they don't get ruined by rain or blown away by the wind.
- Feel good over the weekend as you watch your items find a new home.
- Bring back any unwanted items by Monday, July 22 - The City will NOT be collecting these items.
Bargain Lovers – Join in by searching the city for marked free items you can take home and reuse.
- Search for treasures in your neighbourhood, or explore other areas of the city.
- Be Zero Waste conscious - Only take items you can put to use.
- Stay safe when searching for bargains:
- Slow down and watch for children.
- Park carefully - Please do not block roadways, sidewalks or bike paths; turn off your vehicle.
- Obey traffic signs and speed limits.
