Design Advisory Panel
Applications open for the Design Advisory Panel membership
The City of Nanaimo is recruiting for one volunteer member at large position on the Design Advisory Panel. The Panel reviews the form and character of development permit proposals for multi-family, commercial and industrial developments in relation to the City’s design guidelines. The Panel provides independent, objective recommendations to applicants, City Staff and Council aimed at improving matters of design that affect the public realm.
Successful applicants for the Design Advisory Panel will be familiar with urban design, design principles and have the skills necessary to assist Staff in establishing guidelines to ensure that the form and character of future developments is of high quality and meets the needs of the community.
Applications can be downloaded from www.nanaimo.ca or picked up from Legislative Services in City Hall (455 Wallace Street) and will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the Design Advisory Panel Mandate and Objectives as well as the meeting schedule on the City website prior to applying.
The term of appointment for the Design Advisory Panel is three years, until April 2028, or as determined by Council.

General Committee Information
The Design Advisory Panel (DAP) is an advisory committee to Council made up of design professionals and members of the general public. DAP reviews form and character development permits in relation to relevant design guidelines, good design principles, and conformance with the Official Community Plan and related documents. DAP also provides independent, objective recommendations to the applicant, City staff, and Council aimed at improving matters of design that affect the public realm.
DAP meets every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 5:00 pm in the Service & Resource Centre Boardroom at 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo.
