Leasehold Improvement Permit

A permit is required for alterations to leased commercial spaces (termed "leasehold" or "tenant" improvements).

For alterations that extend beyond the leased space or involve a change of occupancy type (i.e., retail changed to restaurant), refer to the Commercial Alterations page.

Further examples of work that would be considered an alteration, rather than a leasehold improvement, include:

  • Changing the unit size
  • Adding additional units
  • Combining units
  • Changes to the exterior of the building
  • An addition to the building
