The education sector is the fifth largest employment sector in Nanaimo, providing 3,533 jobs, which accounts for 6.8% of the City's labour force (Esri 2023). There are currently 86 private firms in the Education and Training sector. Nanaimo is home to Vancouver Island University, which offers a wide range of certificate, diploma, and degree programs in academic, vocational, and technical fields, from basic literacy to university degrees. Additionally, Discover Community College and Sprott-Shaw Community College offer undergraduate programs in various disciplines, contributing to Nanaimo's vibrant educational sector. The City also provides numerous K-12 education options through public and private schools.
