Greener Together

Addressing climate change requires everyone to take part. This includes residents, community groups, businesses, institutions, and all levels of government.  The City of Nanaimo is committed to working together with our partners to meet our climate emission reduction targets.

To achieve net zero emissions by 2050, we need to cut personal emissions. This means reducing community-wide emissions by at least 50% and 58% below 2010 levels by 2030. We must cut our emissions in half in less than 6 years. We can only meet these targets if everyone takes action to reduce their carbon impact. This includes individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, and local governments.

Here are some key City-led actions and programs, and tips to help you cut your emissions:

What the City is doing What you can do
  • Declared a climate emergency in 2019 and set new community-wide emission reduction targets
