The City of Nanaimo is committed to fostering a safe, healthy, and vibrant community by working collaboratively with community partners and all levels of government. Through strategic prevention, intervention and enforcement initiatives, we take a proactive approach to addressing health, housing challenges, social disorder, and overall community safety.

Our Public Safety teams—including Police, Fire, Community Safety Officers, Bylaw Enforcement, Community Policing, Social Planning, Emergency Management and Parking Services—work together to ensure the well-being of all community members. These dedicated professionals invest significant time, resources, and energy into a variety of programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety and community well-being.

Public safety is not only a Council priority; it is a key pillar of the City Plan’s goal of a Healthy Nanaimo. Whether through emergency response, crime prevention, bylaw enforcement, or community engagement, we are committed to making Nanaimo a safe and welcoming place for everyone.
