The Legislation

To ensure fairness, openness and accessibility, local elections are conducted in accordance with very strict rules. The rules and procedures are set out in Part 4 of the Local Government Act and in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act and associated regulations. Other legislation includes the Community Charter.

Background

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, the City of Nanaimo held an Election to elect eight councillors and one mayor, which together make the Council of the City of Nanaimo. The successful candidates will hold office until October 2026 which is the end of Council’s term.
