Rationale and Analysis

Why We Measure This

To help protect the region's water resources, the data collected through the regional water monitoring network aims to detect changes in surface fresh water resulting from point or non-point sources of pollution, or from cumulative degradation of watershed health and support informed decisions.

How We Measure It

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Drinking Water and Watershed Protection (DWWP) program provides information on the sites selected for monitoring within and near the City's boundary and collects water testing results at those sites each year. The consultant who provides technical support to RDN's DWWP program conducts additional analysis to assign an overall score to each site to assess its state of health and allow high-level comparisons between sites.
