Be FireSmart: Prevent the spread of wildfires

With the hot and dry conditions leading to many uncontrolled wildfires across BC, please be vigilant at ensuring your actions do not cause one.

  • A fire ban is in effect - no camp fires allowed. In addition, sky lanterns, tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers, chimineas, incinerators, burning barrels, burning cages and binary exploding targets used for target practice and any stove or portable campfire devices that have not been CSA or ULC approved are not permitted.
  • Do not throw smoking materials out the car window (even ashing out the window can create a spark that can start a wildfire).
  • Smoking is not permitted in Nanaimo's parks or on Nanaimo's trails.
  • If you are out recreating in the back country with an ATV, dirt bike or 4x4, please make sure to stick to well-worn trails and carry fire suppression equipment with you.
  • Make sure to FireSmart your property. Visit FireSmartBC.ca to find out how you can prepare your home.
  • Prepare a wildfire evacuation plan.
  • If you see a fire, call 911.
