Heat Advisory Alert Issued

An informational alert was issued today to residents registered for the City's emergency notification system, Voyent Alert. It included the following details:

"Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Nanaimo region with temperatures expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius through Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Instructions
  • Seek the shade and avoid long periods of unnecessary exposure to the sun.
  • Watch for signs of heatstroke and check in on your family and neighbours. The elderly, people with pre-existing health conditions, those without air conditioning and people who live alone are vulnerable during heat waves.
  • Dress appropriately for the heat, avoid sitting in parked cars and stay hydrated.
  • Never leave children or pets in a parked car.
  • Visit www.nanaimo.ca for more tips on staying cool.
