November 19, 2024 - Wind Warning for Nanaimo

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Nanaimo area for the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 19 through to late morning Nov. 20, 2024. Residents are advised to be prepared for power outages and downed trees and power lines.

Make sure to have a storm readiness plan, an emergency kit and sign up for Voyent Alert!, the City's emergency alert system. If we get the wind gusts that are forecasted, we recommend you avoid traveling, if possible. If you do go out, watch for falling debris and if you spot a downed power line, call 9-1-1. And, it is always advisable to avoid being on wooded areas, such as Nanaimo’s parks and trails during times of high winds.

In the event of a power outage or severe weather, make sure your home is stocked with necessary supplies such as:

  • battery-powered flashlight
  • radio
  • ready-to-eat food
  • water
  • first-aid kit
  • blankets
  • candles
  • extra clothing
