Services and Supports
This page provides a short list of the emergency shelter, nutrition, and hygiene services available to unsheltered or precariously housed residents of Nanaimo. For a full list of low and no-cost support services available in the City of Nanaimo, please refer to the Surviving in Nanaimo guide.

Drop-in Hub

Provides drop-in basic need services including food, clothing, warming and cooling services, and connection to social supports. 7 days per week, 11am to 6pm. -

(250-753-8266)Co-ed, year-round shelter for 'at-risk youth' between 12-18 years. -
Island Crisis Care Society Samaritan Place

There are 14 beds for women open 24 hours/ 7 days per week. -
Risebridge Temporary Winter Shelter
520 Prideaux Street (250-268-8428)
This shelter includes 24 emergency shelter beds for men and women. It will operate from October 21, 2024 to April 30, 2025 from 7 pm to 9 am, 7 days a week. -
Salvation Army New Hope Centre
19 Nicol Street (250-714-1142)Has 34 emergency shelter beds available for men. -
St. Peters Winter Shelter
Open November 2, 2024
301 Machleary Street (250-591-5600)Has 40 shelter beds for men and women. Shelter services are provided during winter months only (November 2, 2024 to March 31, 2025 from 8pm to 7:30am, 7 days a week). Guests are asked to enter from the back laneway.

The Hub Winter Shelter
Open January 8, 2025
55 Victoria Street, entrance off Nicol Street (778-441-5444)
Has 20 shelter beds for men and women from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am, 7 days a week. Shelter services are provided from January 8 to March 31, 2025 over the winter season.

The Unitarian Shelter

Daily bagged lunch 7 days a week are distributed by partner agencies in Nanaimo. Bagged lunches can also be accessed at the Shower Program in Caledonia Park from 7am to 11am, Monday to Friday. -
Harvest Church (formerly Maranatha Church)

Doors open at 4:30pm every Sunday afternoon with hot and cold refreshments and healthy snacks followed by a meal served at 5:00pm (closed for July and August). Guests are asked to please enter from the back of the building. -

Selby Mission

Stone Soup / Wisteria Community Association
Mobile Service (250-591-6443)
Provides a hot meal and brown bag lunch to go that is served by community volunteers to those in need during the hours of 5:30pm to 8:30pm, 7 days per week. All meals are offered at no charge at a variety of locations. For more information see www.wisteriacommunityassociation.com -
St. Paul's Anglican Church/Nanaimo Foodshare

Lunch provided by Nanaimo Foodshare every Monday between 12-1pm.On the third Tuesday of each month, grocery cards are provided for both individuals and families, to-go meals courtesy of Nanaimo Foodshare, as well as winter clothing, blankets, and other items that have been donated. This program begins at 9am on the third Tuesday at the parish office, and continues until they run out of grocery cards.
